This was one of my favorite weddings of this year, so when South Asian Magazine decided to feature Nili and Swap’s wedding I could not have been more excited. This wedding was amazing- and Andi and I had so much fun shooting it! Indian weddings are done so beautifully, and each member of the family is a valuable part of the tradition which makes them so unlike American Weddings. Nili and Swap are from Miami, so they did a very modern take on a Miami “club” scene for the wedding. Using white furniture and modern colors and textures, the two created a wedding all their own.
This is how Nili and Swap described their wedding day:
Indian weddings are often large in numbers. With that in mind, we wanted to make sure that we used every detail to help share the breadth of our story with our family and friends. Nili and I first met in Orlando when our two alma maters played each other in the 2008 Capital One Bowl. Accordingly, it was fitting that our wedding cake featured Florida and Michigan helmets atop a football field. The names of our tables (i.e. La Fiesta, Market Street, Scorekeepers, The Big House, etc.) also referenced our favorite places in Gainesville and Ann Arbor. Knowing that we’d be starting our married life together in Miami, we wanted to have our setting, décor and color combinations give us and our guests a preview of the years to come. We had considered a variety of hotels in the area, but the Heaven Event Center, which was more lounge like, was the perfect venue for our vision. The acrylic mandap, ice Chiavari chairs, and white flowing curtains, couches, and table linens all worked together to set the stage for a very modern and trendy wedding weekend. Much of the décor was very different than what you’d expect at an Indian wedding, but even the most traditional of our family and friends enjoyed the contemporary look and feel of our events. It took nearly a year of planning from both of us, but in hindsight, it was well worth it!
