Kelsey + David :: The White Room :: St. Augustine Florida Wedding Photography

Kelsey and David said their “I do’s” over looking the water in downtown St. Augustine on a gorgeous {albeit a tad warm} summer night. And while no detail of this fabulous wedding was overlooked, my absolute favorite was Kelsey’s Hailey Paige dress. When brides think outside the box, and go for a stunner like this one- it was so unbelievably amazing and Kelsey looked so perfect in it for her rooftop wedding! Its definitely on the contender list for best dress of the year!

Kelsey and David, Thank you for allowing us to be part of your St. Augustine wedding at the White room! You two are surrounded by amazing friends and family…and I know that whatever challenges and changes life has for you two, together you will be amazing! Enjoy each and every moment! Congratulations! we love you two!

How did you two meet?
David and I met in dental school in Louisville, Kentucky. We were often paired together in groups for projects, including gross anatomy lab- yuck!

How did he pop the question?
David is consistently the most thoughtful person ever! Knowing that I want to get my pilot license in the future, he incorporated a private flight into the proposal. On Easter weekend in 2014, his parents had several people over to celebrate. After eating wayyyy too much food, David’s neighbor stopped by to “show David’s dad his new pontoon boat”. He also claimed that he would be taking his plane out for a ride later in the afternoon and invited anyone that wanted to come. Of course, I piped up, and took the bait, hook, line and sinker. David and I boarded the plane, and I was so excited, as I had never been in a small plane. We flew around David’s neighborhood and passed over his house a couple times. It turns out that while I was looking at all the pretty sailboats I was looking out the wrong window and missed the GIANT banners in David’s backyard. Finally, after passing the banners several times, David directed me to look out the right window, after which, I was in complete shock as he tried to get down on one knee in the small plane. The rest was a blur as I was overjoyed.

How did you choose your theme? Flowers? and overall wedding design?
I was able to use Pinterest and one of my favorite wedding blogs to narrow down a general idea of what I liked. Unlike most girls, I hadn’t given too much thought about the big day growing up. I like all flowers and think every wedding is gorgeous, so it took a while to find my own personal style. I knew it would be like a sauna in Florida in the middle of June, so I was leaning toward light colors so my bridesmaids and groomsmen would be comfortable standing outside for the ceremony. For the flowers, I love a ton of greenery and white and blush full blooms, which lead me to choose the style for the bouquets and centerpieces as well as the garlands.

What was the best moment{s} of your wedding day?
The best moment was when I saw David waiting for me at the end of the aisle. The entire day, I was incredibly nervous about walking down the aisle, thinking about tripping, the weather and anything else that could happen. I have never been a fan of being the center of attention, so I was pretty scared to have all eyes on me. My Dad took my shaking hand in his, gave me a pep talk and as the doors opened for us to walk out, I was beyond excited and every bit of anxiety about being the center of attention completely left me. Seeing David and feeling so confident about our relationship really got me through any fear.

How would you describe your overall wedding experience?
Appreciative. David and I had somewhat of a destination wedding, as the only people living in the area are my parents. Because David and I met in Kentucky at dental school, went to different undergraduate colleges and were raised in different states, we had people from all over the country who came just for our wedding. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of family and friends. Seeing them all together in one place really made David and I feel loved and appreciated all of the time they took to see us on our wedding day. We had a blast catching up and dancing the night away!

What photography related advice would you offer to a couple?
Plan ahead! Kelly told us it would be like herding cats the day of the wedding. We made a timeline and made sure to inform everyone who would be involved in pictures. I feel as though this helped move us along in our timeline so we had the most amount of time to dance.

Tell me about your dress. Where did you find it, how did you choose it, how did you know it was the one?
I was in love with my dress. I never thought I would wear such a big dress, especially in the Florida sun. I am a huge fan of Hayley Paige, so I knew I had to have one of her designs. While in Louisville, a couple months after being engaged, I found out that there would be a Hailey Paige trunk show in Indianapolis (where David is from) at Marie Gabriel that would showcase all of her newest designs. I saw the dress and knew I had to have it! I love the sparkles and the beautiful back. Most of all, I knew it matched my personality and would be completely different from any other dress.

How was your experience taking photos/working with me on your wedding day?
I get a little anxious with pictures. With it being so hot, I had a personal fan basically attached to my hand because I was a sweaty mess! Kelly was able to calm me down as she could see me getting a little frustrated with the heat. She made me laugh and feel so comfortable with her taking a bunch of pictures. I have complete confidence that she has captured our wedding day perfectly!

Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting or would you have rather done it differently? Tell me why or why not!
We did not. David was actually the one to make this decision. He said he wanted the first time he saw me to be when my father walked me down the aisle. We are both traditional in this way. It made me a little nervous because our reception was right after the ceremony, so we didn’t have too much time for family portraits, photos of just David and I, and complete bridal party pictures. We planned each of these shots so that we had time for each of these. The background and weather was perfect for after the ceremony when we took the bride and groom formals.

Any tips on how to prepare for the wedding photos?
Breathe! Be yourself.

We love to hear about vendors you love. List any vendors here and feel free to share your experience. Be sure to include the name of the vendor, their profession, city/state, site or Facebook page and how your experience was!
Florist- The Conservatorie
Cake- Sweet N’ Flour- I was obsessed with our cake. I have never had anything that tasted so wonderful. It was perfect. Not to mention, Marisa is the sweetest person ever. She also made some gluten free cupcakes when I mentioned that one of my bridesmaids has a gluten intolerance.

Did you find a store/site that had everything you were looking for? Use this space to talk about favorite shops. You can include where you got your dress, sites you got your veils/décor/accessories, etc.
Etsy was my friend during the planning process. I found basically all of our decorations and jewelry on Etsy.

Any tips on what to bring?
A personal fan and a change of shoes!

What do you want to always remember from your wedding day?
The moment David and I saw each other while walking down the aisle. I will never forget that moment. Our last dance was a private dance with just David and me while the guests were escorted for the grand exit. This was the time that we were able to be goofy and spin and twirl and really take in the fact that we were a married couple.

What kind of food was served at your reception?
Everyone raved about the shrimp and grits bar at the reception. David and I are huge fans of cheese grits, so we knew this would be a must have at the wedding. We picked every type of food we enjoyed, even if they sounded a little strange together. For appetizers, we had a farmers market station, pear & brie phyllo, bacon wrapped scallops and BBQ pork biscuits. For dinner we had flounder, chicken florentine and prime rib served with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes.

What was the first song you danced to as husband and wife? Father-daughter dance? Mother-son dance?
Our first song was “Mean to Me” by Brett Eldredge. David and I both like country music and fell in love with this song as soon as we heard it. My father chose our father daughter dance, which was the perfect choice. It meant a lot to me to have him make that decision- it definitely made me tear up! The mother son dance, Tennessee Waltz, was chosen by David. His mother and siblings used to have dance parties growing up, and this was one song that he remembers dancing with his mother as a child.

And where are you going on your honeymoon?
We are going to Turks and Caicos! We are so excited to be celebrating not only our marriage, but also graduating from dental school. This will be a great time for us to relax and spend time together before I leave for Commissioned Officer Training for the Air Force in the next couple of weeks.
